An App (which is short for Application) is a native piece of software that you install and it runs local on your device i.e desktop computer or mobile device. A website a different piece of software that lives on a server on the internet and people visit it via a browser. The browser you use is an App (Safari, Chrome, etc) and you use it to visit a website like www.google.com
